gold medals and puke

Well what an interesting weekend its been so far. Took yesterday off work to take our daughter to the Special Olympics regional finals. Much excitment around this and daughter was bouncing about like zebedee on speed. Was destined to be a great weekend with daughter staying with the team for 2 nights and me and hubs booked into fancy hotel. A weekend away with your child without the responsibility of looking after her! What could possibly go wrong???

After much excitement of qualifying event which saw daughter coming 1st and 2nd in her events there was the opening ceremony with olympic flame etc. All athletes seemed to be enjoying it with entertainment laid on. Hubs said he was in music hell with all the country music and irish dancing going on! I was in cold feet hell cos despite it being June, the icicles were hanging off the end of my toes! Where the hell has the summer gone??? Opening ceremony was followed by me and hubs hot footing it to the hotel bar for one or 4 bailey's before bed! bliss. Then.........

Text message at 6.50am-.....'been sick mum'. Noooooooooooo. Spoke to her coach on the phone and made arrangments to collect her at sports ground. When we arrived to collect her she got out of minibus, took a seizure and promptly threw up all over her trainers!!! Much wailing.'.....ohhhhh mum I've puked in public'. Here I was caught between wanting to cry because my daughter was ill and not going to get the chance to compete and wanting to laff my head off at her totally out of character statement! I'm a bad mummy!!

Long drive home lay ahead so not taking any chances, hubs called into a shop and bought a basin for the car as a tescos carrier bag was just not gonna do the job if we had a mega puke, which we did! Unable to find anywhere to ditch the puke without being shouted at by a member of the general public, it rode all the way home on my knee, sloshing around the basin! The words....'I'M A MUMMY...........GET ME OUTTA HERE!' sprung to mind!! Daughter is asleep now and is happily snoring. Would I be bored if my life was a little more dull? Hmmmmmm...........NO!

glittery cushions and fake tan

Have been a bit lazy updating blog this week. Been too busy too busy, too tired and too stressed! Work has been a bit 'oh god someone save me from this hell hole crap'! The warm sunny weather seems to have melted the brains of one or two clients and made my job a bit on the ARGHHHHH side. Aww well gotta pay the mortgage somehow!

Went to daughters sports day this week. Yes I was that mummy who sat on the sidelines crying every time her child won a race. Yes I was that mummy who came last in the spud and spoon race despite cheating and holding my finger on the spud! And yes, I was that mum who wanted to go and punch the child who was winding her daughter up and pushing her off her chair. But I kinda figured the headline in the local rag 'social worker punches special needs child and traumatises entire school', would not do my career much good! They'd definately never let me on the PTA after that. My poor child was then dragged to my office to show everyone her 1st place stickers! Not sure they were as excited as I was but hey ho!

There has been much preparation for daughter going to special olympics next week. New tracksuits, socks etc being bought. She tried to fleece me outta more money and insisted that she would be so much happier with a gold glittery cushion for her bed also. Not quite sure how that is gonna help her in olympics but she tried valiantly to convince me otherwise. I did not give in to the constant whining and dirty looks.

Son with the mad afro has been very busy this week with GCSE exams and I actually think fear has motivated him to study! yayyyyyyyyyyyy for fear!!! He's a wee bit stressed about the whole thing. He is so stressed that he has actually been cleaning his room! At first I thought his body had been swapped by aliens in the middle of the night until I realised that it was exam stress. Poor baby.

I am planning on having a nice romantic evening with hubs. I thought I was looking a bit pale and pasty and bought some self tanning glupe! Didn't realise that it was the shimmery kind so now every time artifical light shines on me I light up like a xmas tree! Should be interesting on Monday in work!!! I wonder what a normal life feels like??
